melanielauren@gmail.com"I feel, in the best moments, in spite of the uncertainty, in spite of the fear, like Lily Briscoe in To the Lighthouse. Yes, she thought, laying down her brush in extreme fatigue, I have had my vision. I had that line written on my wall for years, years ago, and now it holds a whole new richness. I have had my vision, and I thought it would come in a flash, a bright beam of knowing. But it has come in the same way all things come to me. It has come to me with a fight. It has come to me the hard way, through tears and fog and fear and chaos, and now has landed in the palm of my hand like a firefly. There now, I have had my vision." Cold Tangerines, page 78.
Well, I guess if you want to know about me, you can just read my journal. A little background maybe?
I grew up in an amazing family. I got to see my grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles all the time. I've lived in the Houston area for almost my entire life and I love it there. I love big cities. I'm an introvert and somewhat of a late bloomer, but that doesn't mean I'm shy. It takes me a while to feel comfortable around new people, but when I do I'm very talkative and strong-willed. I'm learning more and more to be the person who God created me to be and not the person that I think I need to be. I became a born again Christian when I was 17. It was in a Southern Baptist church and after that I became very enamored with Southern Baptist life. Since then I have become...we'll say less enamored with the Southern Baptist denomination, but I will always have respect for the foundation it gave me. I like to be progressive and rebellious, but also cautious and nostalgic. I prefer small intimate gatherings to large crowded events. I went to a small, private university - which I loved. I have an MA in Marriage and Family Counseling from a seminary that I did not love, but that I believe God used to grow me in profound ways. I love to cook, clean, organize, and make a place warm and inviting to others. And I love dogs (almost more than I love people).
But more than anything I want to love Jesus - not church, and not Christian culture in America - but Jesus - who He was, what He taught, and how He lived His life. Weeding through all the other stuff in life to get to Jesus is perplexing and sometimes very difficult, but worth it - life is not life without Him.
